FIGHTING OVERDEVELOPMENT, PROMOTING SMART GROWTH
For too long, our neighborhoods have suffered from uncontrolled
growth that happens with little or no community input. We
need to fix the broken urban planning process and insist on
genuine smart growth that complements our neighborhoods.
Specifically, we need to
- Promote smart growth policies that encourage mixed
use, providing local jobs, affordable housing and accessible
transportation for workers
- Insist that any new development must go hand-in-hand
with infrastructure improvements. Our infrastructure must
be able to handle any new developments
- Insist development fees to improve traffic and the
environment be spent expeditiously and in the impacted neighborhoods.
- End the “insider culture” in the planning
process that allows consultants, lawyers and planning “specialists”
to manipulate the process and win variances and zone changes.
